What is the different between a private and a personal life. This is a question I’ve pondered for quite some time and the reason it has value is because one day, a mentor told me to make sure I never keep things private, but be mindful of what is personal, I should also not let anything be private.
How do I solve this?
I think that anything that is ‘private’ should certainly be looked at as something that you make a conscious effort to keep from someone/thing.
I think that anything is ‘personal’ if you realize that its value is kept in the fashion that very few people are to know the nature of that information. By keeping things personal you should not be afraid of other people knowing the nature of the information, but rather, realize that sometimes it is better kept without being thrown out into the public sphere.
Should a government entity really consider anything private? What can you fear when everything is out in the open? We encourage honesty from the early years of development and surely appreciate it through adulthood. Why not encourage the same thing from the government? If you make a mistake, you’re encouraged to be open and honest about it, especially when confronted. Now fear is driven in the governments eyes because thousands of documents are being released that were categorized as “classified” or private. Where does fear lead us if not hopelessness? Where does hiding things lead us, if not the hypocrisy?
